Motivational Talk

This page is inspired by an employee of the Ministry of Finance, Singapore, who called to ask if she could engage me as a motivational speaker for MOF.  I was stunned as I did not think the civil service would treat my writings and life story with the respect they deserve.  Does this mark a sea change in the civil service's attitudes towards transsexual individuals?  I guess I will never know because I have not heard from the lady since. 

Nonetheless, the episode spurred me to create this page where I give a synopsis of my planned motivational talks.  Such talks are usually autobiographical in nature, yet it is not so much my colourful life that I wish to speak about, but the lessons I have learnt and the miracles that have occured because I dared to be me.  And so, the title of my motivational talk is "Dare to be you!  Embracing your inner self with love, joy and compassion".

The talk will trace my life's journey from childhood through to adulthood, my experiences growing up as a transgender youth, my difficulties reconciling social expectations with my true gender identity, my struggle to be "me", the sexual reassignment surgery, and finally achieving success as a woman and entrepreneur.  During the talk, I will share the most important universal lessons I have learnt - lessons of faith, love, persistance and the courage to be me, and also read excerpts from the works of writers and thinkers who have shaped my thinking and life.  They include great men such as Anthony de Mello, Dr Wayne Dyer and my friend and mentor Ken Dollarhide. 

Within each of us lies the seed of greatness.  And sometimes we need someone to point out our inner strength, beauty and greatness.  Then, when we finally recognise this greatness within ourselves and reconcile ourselves to it, we will spread our wings and fly.
